A solar and battery storage site near Ayr

We are building a 45 MW solar farm with a 40 MW battery next to Loch Fergus. Once it is running it will produce enough clean electricity for around 13,600 homes.

What is happening now
  • The site entrance has been widened and the temporary access track is being laid.
  • Preliminary pre-development works are taking place in the northern field.
  • Ecology and archaeology checks are being carried out ahead of the main works.
What to expect next
  • Once pre-development works are in place, deliveries of panel mounting frames will arrive by lorry.
  • Cable trenching along is planned for [month].
  • Battery units are expected on site in 2027.

Panels are mounted about three metres off the ground. The electricity feeds straight into the existing Ayr substation. The battery stores power and releases it when demand across Scotland is high.

Who is involved

Aukera is building and will operate the site, jointly developed with Locogen. Planning consent was granted by the Scottish Government in October 2024, after consultation with the local community and South Ayrshire Council.
